Marbella is approximately a 5 hours drive from the San Jose International (SJO) Airport and about 2 hours from Liberia International Airport (LIR). From either airport the roads are paved the entire way to Santa Cruz, then fairly well kept dirt roads the rest of the way to Marbella. From the town of Marbella it is approximately a 1 hour drive north to Tamarindo, 1 hour South to Nosara, and 1.25 hours to Santa Cruz. In Santa Cruz you can find almost anything you may need at very reasonable prices, much cheaper than in the tourist towns. There are 3 great supermarkets, banks, ATM machines, hardware, construction supplies, and household appliances.

From Liberia International Airport (approximately 2 hours)
Leaving the airport, turn right toward Santa Cruz (approx 40 minutes). Just before entering Santa Cruz (before a small bridge) turn right to Playa Junquillal & Playa Tamarindo. Look for directional signs for The Sanctuary every 5 – 8 km. At the Y in the road turn left toward Viensiete de Abril and Junquillal. You are now on the dirt road, go 500 yards, turn right toward Junquillal & Rio Secco. Once you reach Rio Secco, go 1 km. and look for exit toward Marbella, Ostional. Turn left crossing a small bridge and continue to Marbella.

From San Jose International Airport (approximately 5 hours)
Take the Pan American Highway (1) toward San Ramon. Stay on the highway until Limonal. Upon arrival look for a Shell gas station on the left. Turn left toward Tempisque bridge. Cross the bridge toward Nicoya. When the road ends turn right toward Nicoya & Santa Cruz. Stay on this road until you pass through Santa Cruz. As you are leaving, you pass over a small bridge. Turn left toward Playa Junquillal & Playa Tamarindo. Look for directional signs for The Sanctuary every 5 – 8 km. At the Y in the road turn left toward Viensiete de Abril and Junquillal. You are now on the dirt road, go 500 yards, turn right toward Junquillal & Rio Secco. Once you reach Rio Secco, go 1 km. and look for the exit toward Marbella & Ostional. Turn left crossing a small bridge and continue to Marbella.
